I am the crashing you hear in the distance, I am the foam that glides across the beach, I am the glint of sunlight on the water, I am the depths you’ll never, ever reach. I am the pale grey and I am the turquoise, I am a thousand, thousand shades of blue, I am the warmth of hidden tropic islands, I am the chill of Arctic regions too. I am the deep desire of many a traveller, I am the secret dread of land-bound men, I am a still reflection of the sunset, I am destruction, chaos, and mayhem. I am the ocean. You may love or hate me, Feel terror or delight. I do not care. But I know this: you’ll never be indifferent. I am the ocean. Come closer if you dare.
Something rather different this time, friends, and not my finest piece of poetry by any stretch, but a fun change, perhaps? I offer it without comment other than to say that this world is full of dazzling, sometimes terrifying, wonders and it deserves more clear-eyed interest and open-mouthed awe than I give it.
“Wherever you turn your eyes the world can shine like transfiguration. You don’t have to bring a thing to it except a little willingness to see. Only, who could have the courage to see it?” (Marilynne Robinson, Gilead)
I actually love this one:)
