Narnia Songs (I)
Mine are the first feet to crush these tiny blades of grass. My world is old and weary, this world is young and fresh. It’s shimmering and glimmering and laughter’s in the air. A new world has appeared today and beauty’s everywhere. Out of the darkness starlight has shone, out of the emptiness a world has been born. A world has been born, a world has been born. Starlight has shone and a world has been born. But something isn’t right here. There’s evil in the air. A knot is in my stomach and although it feels unfair I can’t deny the lion’s words: this evil came through me. I defaced this painting, I poured poison in this stream. Over the brightness a shadow has fallen, into the fruitfulness death has now come. Death has now come, death has now come. A shadow has fallen and death has now come. But hope cannot be killed off in the presence of the one who sang this world from nothing and whose plans can’t come undone. So listen to the lion’s words: plant a tree and eat its fruit. The head of evil will be crushed, though it will bruise the lion’s foot. Into the shadows sunlight has shone, out of defeat victory is born. Victory is born, victory is born. The sunlight has shone and victory is born.
