Homecoming
Like water in the desert for a traveller, or moonlight in a forest for the lost, like fire-warmth for frozen toes and fingers, or sunshine after weeks of bitter frost, like pale pink blossoms on an April morning, or solid ground after weeks at sea, like sleep for one whose body’s weary, groaning, or noise being swallowed by tranquillity, like health that follows many months of illness, and sweet relief that follows days of pain, like laughter chasing at the heels of sadness, when after grief joy shows her face again, like all of these and more (each knows his own heart’s longing) will be God’s word, “Welcome home!”
Home to have every tear wiped away, every hurt healed, every loss restored. Home safe and home for good.
It will be the best of homecomings.
